OHSAS 18001 Certification
Why you need OHSAS 18001 certification?
OHSAS 18001 series of standards, including OHSAS 18001 "Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems" (OHSMS) was developed as a result of the enormous success enjoyed the series of standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and due to increasing safety conditions in the work environment.
OHSAS 18001 can be considered an emergency response to the demand of various companies for an international standard in terms of safety and health at work, based on which to put in place its own management system. The standard was developed on the structure of British Standard BS 8800: 1996 "British Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems". With OHSAS 18001, which is referential for certification, OHSAS 18002 appeared: 2000 "Occupational Health and Safety Management Specifications", which is a guide for the implementation of OHSAS 18001. OHSAS 18001 has a structure similar to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and is thus thought that it fit perfectly with the two standards already in place. Many terms are similar to the standard ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, such as management review, document control, corrective and preventive actions. This standard is viable solution in the challenges that we face a company, the challenges of work accidents and occupational diseases, lost workdays, paid fines due to failure legislation, medical compensation paid to employees. The first companies that have implemented OHSAS 18001: 1999 have already reported major benefits: decreasing the number of lost workdays, fewer accidents and monetary claims staff, recognition by insurance companies and, perhaps most importantly, an increase in satisfaction employees work.
